Somali troops seize control of key town from Al-Shabaab

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somali federal government forces along with local community fighters entered Aden Yabal district, after days of fighting outside the southern town.

One of the local authorities, who spoke to KON by phone from the town said the troops took full control from Al-Shabaab and are now conducting a mine search and clearance operation.

The army and the clan militia did not encounter any resistance from Al-Shabaab as they swept into the town peacefully on Monday. This is another victory for the government from the battlefields.

Aden Yabal which is located about 250 km north of the capital, Mogadishu has been under the control of Al-Shabaab for 7 years. It was the biggest stronghold for the group in the province.

A few days ago, the SNA forces captured several areas near the Adan Yabal district, including Mabah, Gullane, and Darussalam which are under stabilization process.
