Somali troops with locals dislodge Al-Shabaab from key areas

BELEDWEYNE, Somalia - The Somali National Army [SNA] with the help of armed residents seized control of several areas in the Hiran region following a joint offensive against Al-Shabaab.

During the operation, the SNA troops and the locals flushed Al-Shabaab out of Aboree, Tardo, Sagaalged, and Gedsamo around the Bula-Burde district, according to military officials.

Major Abduqadir Ahmad Ali, one of the SNA officers of the Turkish-trained Gorgor Forces, said that the operation will last until they remove Al-Shabaab from the entire region.

The operation caused heavy losses to Al-Shabaab and the allied forces. The lawmakers in the Somali parliament, including Malik Abdalla, are taking part in the offensive against Al-Shabaab.

Somali president Hassan Sheikh has announced last month that his government will leave no stone unturned to eradicate Al-Shabaab from the entire country within the next year.
