President: “Somalia today has one enemy, and that is Al-Shabaab”

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The president of Somalia said his country has now one enemy which is Al-Shabaab after visiting frontline areas, where the national army and locals are fighting the militants.

Hassan Sheikh accompanied by defense minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur and the leader of HirShabelle state Ali Gudlawe toured troops in Nur-Dugle and Ali Gadud mosque in Middle Shabelle.

The President's visit was to encourage the soldiers and their allied local clan fighters [Ma'wisley] to redouble the operation to remove Al-Shabaab from the remaining locations under its control.

I commend your selfless sacrifice to defend your country and liberate it from Al-Shabaab, which is the only enemy that Somalia is facing today," said the president.

Ali Gadud mosque and Nur-Dugle areas were key strongholds for Al-Shabaab and served as the group's supply routes since are located on the main road linking to central regions.

At the beginning of this week, the president visited Mahas within the Hiran region and two other areas in Galgadud, where he met with the troops and residents who took arms against Al-Shabaab.

Hassan Sheikh declared an all-out war against Al-Shabaab in August after a deadly terrorist hotel siege in Mogadishu which killed 21 people and wounded more than 150 others.

On Wednesday, PM Hamza released a report saying 600 Al-Shabaab members were killed and 1,200 wounded in the past three months, adding that 68 villages have been retaken by the SNA.
