Somalia’s defense minister promises victory during frontline visit

ADADO, Somalia - Senior officials from the Federal Government of Somalia have visited the frontlines of the ongoing multi-direction battle against Al-Shabaab after more territorial gains.

The Minister of Defence Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information Abdirahman Al-Adala, Fedel MP Abdisabir, and the army chief reached Bahdo near Adado city.

They met with soldiers and commanders of the armed forces as well as local residents in the battlegrounds in the areas under Bahdo District in the Galgudud Region to assess the situation.

The government officials have also paid a troop visit to the newly liberated areas, including Dhuumoodle, Maarsamage, and Dhisiq-Shurufle, which are all former Al-Shabaab strongholds.

The army boss General Odawaa Yusuf Rage commended the bravery of the troops and the locals for their fight against the terrorists who burnt the wells and civilians' houses in the rural areas.

You sacrificed your blood, and wealth to defend your country, honor, and religion from the terrorists. You are making today's history for the next generations in the liberation of Somalia," he added.

For his part, the defense minister said the government is committed to fighting Al-Shabaab until ensuring all regions are free from Al-Shabaab and installing local administrations elected by local people.

Since the start of this ending month, Al-Shabaab lost major ground in central Somalia, mainly in the Hiran region, where dozens of villages were liberated by the allied local forces with the support of US military airstrikes.
