Al-Shabaab was driven out of key areas in central Somalia by Somali troops backed by the local residents who took the arms to liberate their territory.
DHUSAMAREB, Somalia - The President of Galmudug State Ahmed Abdi Kariye (Qoor-Qoor) said that his administration is committed to liberating Al-Shabaab from the remaining pockets it controls.
Al-Shabaab is still in control of four districts in the central Federal State and the militants are accused of causing various problems, including destroying the water wells and collecting extortions.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Dhusamareeb district council, Qoor-Qoor said that the people of Galmudug with the help of the federal government will win the ongoing war on Al-Shabaab.
There is a need to unite again in order to free themselves from Al-Shabaab so that the people of Galmudug can get freedom and better life," he added.
The regional leader has urged the public to participate in the liberation of the few areas under the control of Al-Shabaab. His remarks come amid intensified military offensive in central regions.
