Mortar rounds rain down on Mogadishu, killing 4

MOGADISHU, Somalia - At least four Somali civilians have been confirmed dead in a mortar shelling that took place at midnight in the vicinity of Mogadishu airport which is protected by AU troops.

Among the people who died in the attack in the Somali capital Mogadishu were innocent children and a newly married couple after their house in School Polisia within the Hamar-Jajab district.

There are several other victims wounded in the midnight bombardment, who had been hospitalized in the city. The mortar shelling coincides with a complex attack at Hayat hotel in the KM4 junction.

No group has claimed responsibility for the shelling but Al-Shabaab has taken the credit for the hotel raid which is still underway with the security forces attempting to kill the attackers inside.
