Somali army operations deal heavy blow to Al-Shabaab

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somali government forces continue to deal a heavy blow to the terror group, Al-Shabaab after retaking three strategic areas in the central Hiran region during a week-long military operation.

The troops wrested control of Omaad, Madhooy, and Qulaale in the west of Beledweyne, the regional capital of Hiran without encountering a big resistance from the militants who retreated to nearby rural areas for survival.

After securing the villages, the SNA soldiers have set up defensive bases in and outside to avert possible counter-attacks from Al-Shabaab, which is reportedly regrouping in remote forest locations to regain control.

Somalia has long been stressing that it will not tolerate terror threats posed against its national security and has called on AU forces in the country to take the necessary steps to eliminate the terrorist groups.
