A report issued by Prime Minister Hamza on Wednesday announced that 600 Al-Shabaab members were killed in the last three months and 68 locations were liberated by the Somali forces.
MOGADISHU, Somalia - The government forces along with local clan militias are achieving successive victories in the current war against Al-Shabaab in central and southern Somalia.
The battle started after President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced a large-scale operation in August to liberate the entire country from Al-Shabaab, which stages an insurgency for 15 years.
The latest operations in the Lower Shabelle and Middle Shabelle bordering the capital Mogadishu are said to have left as many as 40 Al-Shabaab dead while dozens of others were wounded.
The Ministry of Information said yesterday that 49 members of Al-Shabaab were killed in the Lower Shabelle region during a US-assisted operation carried out by the American-trained elite Danab.
