Six of the appointed members are women, two of them became Ministers, two deputies, and two state ministers. This is the largest number of ministers a regional state has ever had in Somalia.

On Saturday, the US embassy in Mogadishu has urged the two states to quickly finalize the election of the remaining seats to begin the next phase of the House leadership and the president’s vote next month.

Last month, the U.S. imposed visa restrictions for Somali leaders after failing to hold a timely, transparent, and credible election in the country. Washington is a key partner in the fight against the Al-Shabaab group.

There have been clashes between government forces and militia fighters opposing the visit by Ali Gudlawe, whose election in 2020 violated HirShabelle state's power-sharing system. 

Mohamed Abdi Ali "Mohamed Dheere" and Abdirahman Abdi Idow "Khaire", both sustained wounds after they were targeted with IED while heading to their houses walking on foot.

The leader of HirShabelle state Ali Gudlawe announced the list of the candidates last week following months of consultations with the stakeholders. 

The group is affiliated with al-Qaeda and has been fighting the Somalian government since 2007.

The regional state's election has been delayed several times due to the internal dispute and interference from Villa Somalia. 

The local people are against the visit by HirShabelle state leader Ali Gudlawe to Beledweyne city, where mutinous forces are in control.

After his tenure expired in early 2021, Farmajo is facing uncertainty surrounding his re-election bid as close allies are currently turning into foes.

The operation comes ahead of the Lower House election in Jowhar, one of the two voting districts in HirShabelle state.
