Somalia has established close ties with Ethiopia after a fallout with Kenya last December. 

The captors have sent at least three videos and messages to the family, demanding a $50,000 ransom.

Al-Shabaab's decade-long insurgency has not only focused on attacks inside the country, but the extremists also have staged attacks in Kenya and Uganda.

The city has been under Al-Shabaab blockade since 2010 which led to inflation and food insecurity.

Somalia is long ranked one of the most corrupt countries in the world. 

The countries had been in a stiff dispute over the Indian Ocean maritime boundary since 2010.

Last week, SNA chief Gen Odowa Yusuf Rage said 300 militants were killed in a three-week-long operation in the Middle Shabelle region.

The recent UN report claimed that Somali soldiers were spotted in the Tigray region crossed from the Eritrea border.

The office of the PM has announced that the two sides also discussed issues related to the election and flood response.
